We are Root for Kids (also known as The Learning Center for Families), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and families thrive.

Since 1993, we’ve walked alongside more than 20,000 families, providing early education, health services, and family support from pregnancy to age five. Through compassion, connection, and care, we help every child grow to reach their full potential, because love and learning go hand in hand.

With tender hearts, we are sharing that Root for Kids will no longer be offering our TANF Parents as Teachers program in Washington and Iron counties.

It has been an incredible honor to walk alongside so many families through pregnancy and the earliest years of their children’s lives. Through home visits, meaningful connections, encouragement, and support, our TANF Parents as Teachers team has helped parents recognize their own strengths and feel more confident as their child’s first and most important teacher.

We are deeply grateful for the dedicated staff members who have poured so much care, knowledge, and compassion into this program.

To every family in this program who welcomed us into your home and trusted us to be part of your journey, thank you. It has been a privilege we will always carry with us.

Our team is committed to supporting currently enrolled families through this transition and helping connect them with continued resources and services. While this chapter is coming to a close, the relationships, memories, and impact of Parents as Teachers will remain an important part of the Root for Kids story.

Root for Kids’ other programs, including Early Head Start, Early Intervention, Kindermusik, First Things First, and Caterpillar Clubhouse, are not affected by this change and will continue serving families throughout our community. 🩷💚🩵

As we get ready to celebrate the 24th, we’re teaming up with the Salt Lake County Health Department Coalition to share important information about fireworks.
Fireworks are a summer tradition, but did you know some contain lead and other toxic metals? When they explode, they release fine particles and heavy metals into the air that can affect our lungs, soil, water, and developing brains, especially in children and pregnant women.

There is no safe level of lead exposure. Let’s protect our health and still celebrate!

Tips for Safer Celebrations:
• Skip backyard fireworks. Opt for professional shows at a distance.
• Choose a drone or laser light show! These are beautiful, non-toxic alternatives.
• Close windows during displays and clean outdoor surfaces afterward.
• Wash hands (especially for kids) after handling items left outside.
• Stay indoors if you have asthma or other respiratory concerns.

We are celebrating an incredible milestone as Dixie retires after 22 years with Root for Kids!

During her time with us, Dixie completed more than 11,040 home visits, served approximately 420 families, and made a lasting impact on countless children and parents throughout our community.

Thank you, Dixie, for your compassion, dedication, and commitment. We are grateful for everything you’ve contributed to Root for Kids!

Join us on Saturday, June 6th for the Texas Roadhouse Cruise-In Fundraiser hosted by @stgeorgecarshows benefiting Root for Kids!

From 2:00pm-8:00pm, Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of every sale (before tax) back to Root for Kids when you present the fundraiser flyer with barcode to your server! (Swipe to see the official flyer!)
Then stick around for the Cruise-In starting at 5:00pm featuring amazing classic cars!

We are very proud to celebrate an incredibly special recognition received by one of our own, Samantha, who was recently honored with the @justserve “Heart of Service” Award!

JustServe selected Root for Kids from several organizations in recognition of the incredible impact our volunteers and team continue to make throughout the community, and so much of that heart and connection starts with Samantha.

Anyone who knows her knows this recognition could not be more deserved! She has one of the biggest hearts of anyone we know, and the passion, compassion, and care she pours into her work each day touches so many lives. She goes above and beyond for the families we serve, our volunteers, and our community, and we feel so lucky to have her as part of the Root for Kids team!
